Application Fee Waivers:

Before requesting an application fee waiver you must create an online application account and start the application process by selecting the application term, academic program, and degree level. If you are applying to the Columbia Video Network (CVN), please do not complete this form. Please contact the CVN office for assistance. 

U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled in a U.S. college or university who demonstrate financial need can request an application fee waiver. The Application Fee Waiver Request Form must be submitted with required documentation. Acceptable forms of documentation include a letter verifying your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) signed by you and your financial aid officer at your current university or college, a copy of your current Student Aid Report (SAR) available from the FAFSA website, or a copy of your most recent U.S. income tax return (Form 1040).

Program Fee Waivers

Application fee waivers are available to participants in one of the programs listed below.  Proof of participation is required. The Application Fee Waiver Request Form must be submitted with required documentation. Acceptable documentation includes a letter from the program director on official letterhead.  If a program does not appear, please send an email inquiry to see if the program is eligible.

  • Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar
  • Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
  • Columbia EngAGE (letter not required)
  • GEM Fellowship applicant (letter not required)
  • Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program
  • Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program
  • Peace Corps
  • Project 1000

Military Fee Waivers

Application fee waivers are also available to active U.S. Military personnel and veterans. The Application Fee Waiver Request Form must be submitted with required documentation. Acceptable documentation includes a copy of the DD-214, current Military ID card, or deployment or pre-separation orders.

Extenuating Circumstances Fee Waivers

If you do not meet the eligibility requirements for an application fee waiver, but would like to be considered then you can submit the Application Fee Waiver Request Form and select the Extenuating Circumstance option. Documentation of your financial need must be submitted with the form.  Examples of documentation include a letter from your college or university financial aid office, tax returns or other financial documents.  You will be notified in writing after a decision is made.  If your request is not approved, then you will be required to submit the application fee with your online application.
